The beaches

Whether you’re looking for an unspoilt beach, a family beach or a beach close to restaurants and shops, you’ll find just what you’re looking for from our choice of beautiful sandy beaches in La Grande Motte.

Choose THE BEACH THAT’S BEST FOR YOU

Beaches which gently slope into the sea are just perfect for small children. At the height of the season, 4 first-aid stations are open every day to cover the town’s 7 km of beaches.

Couchant beach

The Couchant beach is the beach for families and watersports enthusiasts. Halfway to the beach, you’ll find many shops and restaurants in the "Boutiques du Couchant".

The area closest to the marina has every kind of water sport imaginable: you can hire equipment from the water sports centre or book lessons for sailing, windsurfing, stand-up paddle, canoe kayak, etc. There is a dedicated space for kitesurfing, when the weather permits.

The port is the departure point for leisure activities such as tubing, parasailing, jet ski and stand-up paddle (during the season)

Le Grand Travers beach

The Grand Travers beach is the most natural beach in La Grande Motte. The dunes and pine wood just behind the beach are protected areas. The sea in this area has been designated a Natura 2000 site, where work is underway to protect its posidonia seagrass beds and its underwater marine life.

A small section of this beach is open to dogs, at the access points 58 and 60.

Town centre beach

The town centre beach has a seafront promenade with restaurants, ice-cream parlours and small shops. There are no roads along this promenade, which means you can take a stroll, sunbathe or swim in absolute tranquillity.

Point Zéro beach

Dunes separate the footpath from the Point Zéro beach. The walk will take to the town centre quickly and peacefully.

You can rent loungers and sunshades on all of the beaches as well as on the private beaches.

La Grande Motte has been awarded "The Blue Flag Beach" title every year for the last 25 years. This ecolabel is awarded to towns that pursue a permanent sustainable development policy for a high quality environment.
